What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIR/Floortime Supervisor position at Child & Family Development?
The DIR/Floortime Supervisor provides clinical leadership, reflective supervision, and program oversight to ensure high-quality, relationship-based developmental services across Child & Family Development’s programs. This role supports cross-disciplinary clinicians (OT, SLP, PT, mental health providers, and developmental specialists), promotes fidelity to the DIR model, and partners closely with families to create warm, attuned, and meaningful intervention experiences that honor each child’s individual differences.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Supervision & Leadership
- Provide weekly or biweekly reflective supervision to DIR/Floortime practitioners, therapists, and developmental staff.
- Observe sessions (live or video) and offer strengths-based, developmentally informed feedback.
- Support clinicians in identifying each child’s FEDC profile, sensory processing patterns, and individual differences.
- Ensure accurate clinical formulation and intervention planning across FEDCs, including goal development, session planning, and coaching strategies.
- Facilitate case reviews, team meetings, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Program Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Monitor adherence to DIR/Floortime principles and ensure fidelity to relationship-based, child-led intervention.
- Review clinical documentation, goals, progress notes, and treatment plans for accuracy, clarity, and developmental appropriateness.
- Support onboarding and training of new clinicians, including DIR model foundations, assessment procedures, and family-centered practice.
- Identify areas for clinical growth and provide targeted coaching or training modules.
Family & Caregiver Support
- Provide consultation to parents and caregivers as needed to support generalization of developmental strategies across home and school.
- Support clinicians in structuring parent coaching sessions, home programs, and collaborative communication with families.
- Participate in case conferences, parent meetings, and multi-disciplinary planning as needed.
Professional Development & Training
- Develop and facilitate in-house trainings, workshops, and continuing education aligned with DIR/Floortime principles.
- Support clinicians pursuing ICDL DIR certification or advanced DIR coursework.
- Stay current on research and best practices related to developmental models, neurodiversity-affirming care, sensory processing, co-regulation, and attachment-based intervention.
Collaboration & Administrative Support
- Collaborate with the clinical director on program development, caseload distribution, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance regarding challenging cases, crisis situations, or complex developmental profiles.
- Assist in building partnerships with schools, community programs, and interdisciplinary partners.
- Participate in hiring decisions, training tracking, and performance evaluations as requested.
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience working with children and families using the DIR/Floortime model.
- DIR/Floortime certification (DIR-C or above through ICDL).
- Experience providing reflective supervision or mentoring to clinicians.
- Strong understanding of sensory processing, emotional regulation, attachment, and developmental milestones.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Commitment to neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and family-centered care.
Preferred
- DIR Expert or Training Leader (TL) status or actively pursuing advanced certification.
- Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of related frameworks (e.g., Polyvagal Theory, strengths-based coaching, SCERTS, RDI, or play-based therapy models).
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
Work Environment & Schedule
