We are pleased to announce an opening for a Special Educator within our Infant Parent Program, which supports infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities and their families throughout the Greater Hampton Roads area.
The Special Educator plays a critical role in delivering early intervention services by partnering with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to support each child’s growth and development through individualized, family-centered strategies.
What You Will Do
  • Conduct developmental assessments for infants and toddlers with suspected delays or disabilities
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs)
  • Deliver early intervention services in home and community-based settings using a coaching model
  • Partner with families and caregivers to build skills that support child development in daily routines
  • Collaborate with a transdisciplinary team to evaluate progress and adjust intervention strategies
  • Monitor and document child progress, maintaining accurate and timely service records
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and program requirements for early intervention services
  • Participate in screenings, reassessments, and team meetings to support coordinated care
  • Provide training and education to families, caregivers, and community groups as needed
  • Attend medical or team meetings with families when appropriate
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement and program development efforts
What You Will Bring
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education or related field
  • Valid Virginia licensure in a related area (or eligibility)
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families preferred
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and family-centered service delivery
  • Familiarity with early intervention regulations and IFSP processes
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Current Infant/Child CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for home visits
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to actively engage with young children, including sitting on the floor and participating in play
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to safely supervise children and respond in emergency situations
  • Must complete required background checks and health screenings
