Responsibilities
- Review medical records to ensure proper documentation aligns with CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding standards.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through healthcare claims management processes to maximize reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and health insurance information to facilitate smooth billing procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments received, and outstanding balances while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies and address patient inquiries with professionalism and clarity.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines, insurance policies, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing with familiarity in medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare claims processing.
- Strong knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications along with experience using billing software and EMR/EHR systems.
- Excellent understanding of health insurance policies, medical collection procedures, and healthcare claims management.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Prior experience working in a medical office environment is required.
- Knowledge of medical coding standards and billing regulations is essential for accuracy and compliance.
