Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides supervision, training, and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in both center and community settings. DSPs assist individuals in achieving goals identified in their Person-Centered Individual Support Plans (PCISP) while promoting independence, dignity, community inclusion, and personal growth.
Essential Responsibilities
Individual Support & Programming
- Implement goals and objectives outlined in each individual's PCISP.
- Provide meaningful individual and group programming.
- Assist individuals in developing daily living skills, including:
- Communication
- Money management
- Self-advocacy
- Cooking
- Shopping
- Exercise and wellness
- Support individuals in achieving greater independence.
Community Integration
- Support individuals in participating in community activities and events.
- Promote inclusion, independence, and meaningful community involvement.
- Develop positive relationships with community partners and members.
- Assist individuals in accessing community resources and opportunities.
Health, Safety & Personal Care
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals served.
- Assist with personal care needs as required, including:
- Hygiene
- Toileting
- Dressing
- Mobility assistance
- Administer medications according to agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain awareness of individuals at all times, including during transportation and community outings.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate and timely documentation.
- Record services provided for billing purposes.
- Complete incident reports and required agency documentation.
- Follow all agency policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Professional Conduct
- Treat all individuals with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
- Protect the rights and confidentiality of individuals served.
- Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, families, and community members.
- Communicate effectively and professionally.
- Attend required trainings and maintain certifications.
Transportation Responsibilities
(When Assigned)
- Safely transport individuals according to agency policies.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns.
- Assist individuals with loading and unloading vehicles.
- Maintain supervision of individuals during transportation.
- Ensure agency vehicles remain clean and safe.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's License (if transporting individuals)
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass required background checks
- Ability to complete required agency training
Required Training
- CPR/First Aid
- NVCPI
- Core A & Core B Medication Certification
- For-Hire Endorsement (if required for transportation duties)
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
