Child Action is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking child care, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support.

We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem-solving skills, and have the ability to understand the challenges facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities.

Position Purpose & Scope:
Under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, the Community Resource Specialist supports and enhances client engagement with the organization’s programs and services. This position works collaboratively with all departments to provide comprehensive support to families and childcare providers. The role delivers information on quality childcare options and identifies inclusive resources and services that support the diverse needs of children and families.


Typical Duties:
  • Conduct support for clients seeking assistance from Child Action, serving as the first point of contact, providing accurate information, initial screening, and warm handoffs to agency experts and partner programs.
  • Provide personalized childcare referrals, deliver parent education on all aspects of childcare choices, and connect families with appropriate community resources and services.
  • Provide enhanced childcare navigation to families experiencing challenges including caring for children with special needs, foster program participation, CalWORKs eligible, parenting youth, unhoused, and other concerns.
  • Maintain and update childcare provider data and provide ongoing support and resources to Sacramento-based childcare programs.
  • Provide information to the community on childcare licensure, basic child development milestones, and childcare subsidy.
  • Stay current with childcare issues including Community Care Licensing regulations as well as local and internal agency updates, current programs, opportunities, and activities.
  • Facilitate and support community outreach and presentations, parent and provider events, workshops and activities.
  • Research and help maintain a comprehensive list of local community resources available for families and childcare providers.
  • Provide services in-office as well as at co-location sites, partner agencies, childcare programs, and community events as required and present a professional demeanor that represents Child Action.
  • Cultivate communication with other organizations to understand their needs and identify potential opportunities for collaboration.
  • Screen and assist parents and childcare providers in accessing wrap-around services, including Child Action programs and essential and relevant community resources.
  • Assist with special projects and events as assigned.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
Education & Experience:
  • Associate's (AA) in early education, child development, social services, or a closely related field. Two years of comparable experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in customer service or a position interacting with the public.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems and prioritize tasks appropriately.
  • Capacity to work both independently, occasionally completing assignments with minimal supervision, and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a strong emphasis on active listening and strength-based models of interaction.
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with parents, providers, co-workers, and community members.
  • Able to attend to multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand issues facing families from varied cultural and economic backgrounds and respond with respect and empathy.
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
Physical Factors:
  • Work occurs primarily in an office setting with occasional off-site work.
  • Requires occasional light physical activity including lifting and transporting materials.
  • Requires visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • May experience periods of high workload and tight deadlines. Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet program needs.
  • Travel within the county is required. Staff must meet Child Action, Inc.’s motor vehicle requirements.

Pay Grade Range: $27.64 - $34.55

Hours: Must be able to work full-time, 40.0 hours per week (8.0 hours a day), Monday through Friday. All employees must be able to work additional overtime and weekend hours as required.
