What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Operations position at Chief of Staff KC?
Vice President of Operations
Kansas City Metro (On-site) | Direct Hire | Confidential Search
Chief of Staff KC is partnering with a well-established insurance brokerage on a confidential search for a Vice President of Operations, a role designed to grow into the company's Chief Operating Officer seat. The company has built one of the most trusted consumer brands in its industry. With recent private equity investment and a clear five-year growth mandate, it now needs an operator who can turn vision into structure.
What You'll Own
- Operations. You'll define who owns what, how decisions get made, how cross-functional handoffs work, and the weekly, monthly, and quarterly review cadence. You'll also lead continuous process improvement measured against clear KPIs.
- Sales and Retention. You'll partner with and push sales leadership on production, conversion, and the performance bar across new business and retention. You'll own client retention and engagement strategy and keep key carrier relationships healthy.
- Operating Plan and Budget. You'll build and manage the annual operating plan, covering headcount, vendor and technology spend, and productivity targets, and you'll reallocate resources as priorities shift.
- Technology and AI. You'll drive the automation roadmap across lead nurture, call QA, retention triggers, reporting, and the client-facing digital experience, building on proprietary tools already in place.
- Compliance. You'll keep the business fully compliant as it scales, across marketing regulations, carrier requirements, and producer licensing for all product lines.
- People and Talent. You'll own recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and the HR foundation needed to scale without losing quality or culture.
What You Bring
- 10 years of progressively senior leadership experience, including 5 years owning a P&L or running a major operating function
- A track record of scaling a sales-driven organization through significant growth and building the team and infrastructure to sustain it
- Proven ability to translate strategy into an executable plan with clear owners, KPIs, and a review cadence
- Comfort working at both the strategic and operational levels
- A history of using technology to drive productivity without adding complexity
- A people-first leadership style balanced with accountability, and the ability to delegate well without needing hand-holding
- Strongly preferred: insurance industry experience and an understanding of how insurance and technology combine to drive economies of scale
Why This Role
- A defined path to Chief Operating Officer, with executive-level scope from day one
- A real mandate to build structure rather than maintain it
- A founder-led, mission-driven culture built on a teacher-first commitment to client care
