The Fundraising and Communications Manager performs the strategic development function in the organization and drives its fundraising efforts to secure the resources needed to advance the organization’s work. The Fundraising and Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director and performs day-to-day activities to build and maintain sustainable revenue in partnership with major donors (high net-worth individuals), foundations, and corporate partners for CHAT. Strategies include social media communication, fundraising events, identifying donors, major gifts, planned giving, and direct mailing. All fundraising efforts represent and communicate the values and mission of CHAT to donors and the public.
JOB DUTIES:
Fundraising
- Develop policies and procedures that reflect ethical fundraising practices.
- Coordinate organization fundraising events with planning and logistics.
- Execute mail and digital campaigns.
- Steward and leverage relationships with existing funders that result in meeting or exceeding target fundraising goals.
- Actively seek to deepen current donor relationships and forge new ones.
- Creates marketing, branding, and messaging strategies in addition to keeping the public up to date with CHAT activities.
- Develop compelling proposals, reports, budgets, and other materials for high-net-worth people, foundations, and corporate fundraising, including sponsorships that articulate the organization’s accomplishments and aspirations
- Implement fundraising activities:
- Use ethical fundraising principles
- Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events
- Engage volunteers for special fund development projects
- Manage all deadlines, workflows, and project plans for fundraising activities
- Participate in the development and implementation of planned giving, major gift, and individual donor programs.
- Participate in the planning and coordination of creative, strategic, and meaningful appeals, campaigns, and activities to engage new and existing donors both online and in person.
- Support the management team and Board members in relationship development with high-net-worth people, foundation and corporate funders, and major donors, including: researching prospects; developing presentations and information packages; scheduling and participating in meetings and site visits.
- Keep up to date on development trends and strategies.
Communications
- Implement strong communication skills via writing copy, storytelling, editing, producing, and editing video
- Utilize graphic design skills in Canva or other design platforms.
- Use impactful storytelling and communications methods to convey the power of collaborative action to external partners.
- Develop a comprehensive communications plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization.
- Prepare or oversee the development of high-quality donor communications materials that demonstrate deep knowledge of the organization’s programs and promote its Mission (e.g. solicitation materials, thank you letters, annual reports).
- Develop web, newsletter, and social media content to: market the organization; promote fundraising activities; and acknowledge donors and funders.
- Produce content, design layout, print, mail newsletters, and annual appeal to all donors.
- Produce content and design layout for monthly email blast.
- Design and layout monthly electronic donor newsletter.
- Prepare multiple social media posts weekly.
- Assist in preparing materials for Board and Committee meetings.
- Prepare email blasts as needed.
- Communicate with Managers and other staff to understand agency needs.
- Coordinate regular Fundraising Advisory Team meetings.
- Prepare internal reporting for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Administration
- Knowledge of donor platforms: build queries, reports, letters, DIY online forms for online donations and event ticketing.
- Enter contributions into the donor platform.
- Enter grants & deliverables.
- Process and enter the checks.
- Print and mail thank you letters to donors on a weekly basis.
- Manage online donations.
- Utilize WordPress: design and build pages, and update content.
- Assist in managing fundraising pages on the website (WordPress).
- Assist in regularly reconciling contributions with the Accountant.
- Maintain accurate fundraising records.
- Work collaboratively with the team to provide all necessary information for the annual audit.
- Assist the leadership team in preparing fundraising reports and materials for the Board of Directors and supporting directors’ fundraising efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and/or 3 years’ related experience.
- Successful experience in the field of fundraising and development.
- Excellent communication skills: writing copy, storytelling, editing, producing, and editing video.
- Strong graphic design skills in Canva or other design platforms.
- Ability to approach people in a manner that creates and promotes cooperation
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate a proven track record of securing gifts and sponsorship commitments.
- Professional and collaborative.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of CHAT.
- Ability to understand the breadth of CHAT’s programs and services
- Must possess a current and valid California driver’s license, including a driving record acceptable to F&H insurance company.
- Must be able to support a flexible schedule, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
