HABITAT FOR HUMANITY VISION AND MISSION

The vision of Habitat for Humanity is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The mission statement is: “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity bring people together to build homes, community, and hope!” This mission is accomplished primarily through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, to build and rehabilitate houses for families in need of affordable housing. It is meant to be a hand-up, not a hand-out, in that the new homeowner is asked to spend a significant number of hours working on his or her new home and will be asked to repay a loan for the cost of the home.

ABOUT DUPAGE & CHICAGO SOUTH SUBURBS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

The DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity provides decent affordable housing to those in need who either reside in the state of Illinois, specifically in DuPage County and Chicago South Suburbs. Headquartered in Wheaton and Oak Forest, the affiliate has served over 300 families since its inception and has plans to grow in capacity to serve over 40 additional families per year.

DHFH/CSS operates under the umbrella of HFHI, but is solely responsible for funding its operation, choosing partner families, constructing, or rehabbing homes and ensuring the success of its partner families in DuPage County and Chicago South Suburbs.

The Driver is responsible for the pick-up of donations at the homes of donors and various corporate locations and transporting them to the ReStores. Upon arrival at the ReStore, this individual will unpack and unload donations at the designated area. This must be done in a safe and friendly manner.

The Driver will work with the Operations and Corporate Relationship teams to help prepare the stores for the incoming donations and will maintain the safety of the truck fleet.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1 – General Duties

· Load and unload all donated materials.

· Screen product for usability.

· Communicate with ReStore Staff regarding incoming donations.

· Working with a volunteer or staff truck helper, providing a meaningful experience.

· Drive Habitat ReStore vehicles including box trucks up to 24’ to make designated pick-ups.

· Operate forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse handling items.

· Other duties as assigned by ReStore Management Team.

2 - Team Leadership

· Maintain an effective working relationship with ReStore staff, volunteers, partner families and ReStore customers.

· Motivate team of staff and volunteers to meet current organizational goals while providing a fun and dynamic place to work.

3 – Grow Donation Stream

· Engage in activities to grow donation stream.

· Maintain a friendly and courteous demeanor when dealing with donors.

· When needed, distribute marketing materials that promote ReStore and DHFH.

4 – Safety

· Ensure that all policies are followed as outlined in safety manual and update the manual as needed for changes in policy, law, or circumstances.

· Identify safety hazards and eliminate them or bring them to the attention to someone who can mitigate them.

· Ensure safety of truck fleet by scheduling and responding to maintenance requests.

· Learn and teach relevant safety topics to staff and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

· Be at least 18 years of age (Drivers 18-21 must have clean driving record and 1 year driving experience)

· Have a valid license, CDL if required

· Have at least 3 year experience driving any specialized vehicle

· Have NO Type A violations in the last 5 years

· Have no license suspension or revocation in the last 3 years

· Have no more than a total of 3 Type B violations in the last 3 years

· Have no more than a total of 3 accidents (regardless of fault) in the last 3 years

· No more than a combination of 4 accidents and Type B violations in the last 3 years

· Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
