Title: Recreation Leader (Day Camp) - Teen Engagement
- PLEASE NOTE: Although the classification title is Recreation Leader (Day Camp) , this recruitment is for a separate, limited number of seasonal positions assigned to specialized summer programming at select Park District locations. Assignments may include working with older youth, teen engagement, and other site-based recreation activities in outdoor and specialty settings, such as the Rollin' Rec Activity Van, Grant Park Skate Park, Douglass Park Miniature Golf Course, La Follette Water Playground, Austin Water Playground, and Garfield Community Plaza & Skate Park, among others.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision, provides recreational activities for children ages 3 years old and up during the operation of day camp activities. Performs related duties as assigned or required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Accompany groups of children on field trips to educational institutions, public functions or recreational activities.
- Provide adult supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
- Lead and participate in games, drills and agility exercises.
- Read to children and teach simple painting, drawing, songs and similar recreation activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
High School or an equivalent certification (GED) is required but may be waived for seasonal employees who are referred through special hiring programs. Candidates for this position must have reached their 16th birthday at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of the Chicago Park District’s Recreation Leader in Training Program or Counselor in Training Program within the past three years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work with individuals or groups of children from ages 3 years old and older; Basic knowledge of children’s games and recreation activities; Effective oral communication skills; Ability to enforce safety rules; Ability to lead physical, recreational and leisure activities; Ability to exercise good judgment.
RATE OF PAY: $17.77 per hour
