Title: Maintenance Service Worker
THIS IS A BID POSITION
This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Park District and the Teamster Local 700. Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement, the District will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants. The District is assembling a list of qualified candidates for this position that will be considered should the position not be filled with internal eligible applicants.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision, the incumbent installs barriers; marks parking lots, garages and pavements to guide pedestrians and operator of vehicles. Operates trucks and machinery. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Haul concrete and wooden barriers to designated locations. Close driveways or parts of driveways to traffic by erecting barriers or signs. Operates road light service truck as assigned. Installs, repairs and maintains parking maintains parking meter devices. Operates road marking machines for the marking of pavements, parking spaces or similar areas. Prepares traffic lanes in parking lots for special events. Sets up official parking spaces. Transports all necessary equipment used for special programs, events or routine work. Place lanterns, torches, flags or control devices as directed. Digs holes and installs bollard (concrete barriers) that protect park patrons from vehicle traffic. Helps sign hangers replace or hang new signs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduation or the equivalent plus three (3) years of experience in measuring, laying out and applying roadway and parking space markings or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of measurement methods and techniques utilized to and related layouts; Skills in laying out and marking accurate measurements; Ability to operate equipment used in application of traffic and parking space markings. Knowledge of laws related to sign hanging;
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
General work area is outdoors. Exposure to loud noise, fumes, or dust. Perform tasks that involve the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching, walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and sitting. Performs lifting tasks up to 75 pounds.

Rate of Pay: $98,321.60/annually
