Title: Aquatic Coach (H)
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under supervision, coaches the Water Polo Club or Swim Club members. Attends weekend water polo tournaments or swim meets as needed. Performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTES:
- Provides instruction and training to children in sports and competitive athletics in swimming and water polo.
- Adapts programs to reflect different levels of participant skill development.
- Provides information on rules of individual and team sports.
- Enforces and promotes safety guidelines. Sets up sports equipment and apparatus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Enrollment in a college or university supplemented by one to two years of sports or coaching experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required
Certification Requirements:
Applicants must have one or more of the following certifications at the time of hire:
- USA Swimming Coach Certification
- US Water Polo Coach Certification American Water Polo Coach Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of water polo. Basic knowledge of games and activities played in the water. Effective oral communications skills. Ability to enforce safety rules. Ability to lead and coach water activities. Ability to exercise good judgment. Ability to work with individuals or groups of individuals or children.
As a part-time Chicago Park District employee, eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including:
- $1/hour on 1/1/2026
- $1/hour on 1/1/2027
- 1 day of personal leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis.
- 2 days of sick leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis.
- After one year of employment, employees who work 1040 hours or more in the previous year are typically eligible for between 7-10 workdays of paid vacation time annually (additional time after first 5 years of employment).
