What are the responsibilities and job description for the Server position at Chicago Athletic Association?
Boka Restaurant Group and the Chicago Athletic Association are currently seeking Servers to join their team at the Game Room!
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least two years of previous Server experience. The Server must be available Saturday-Monday evenings.

General Description:
Provides friendly, responsive service to create an exceptional dining experience. Describes menu, takes orders, serves food and makes sure customers have everything they need to enjoy their meals. Responsible for coordinating entire station and communicating to front- and back-of-house personnel to provide a dining experience that meets or exceed guest expectations. Processes guest orders to ensure all items are prepared properly and on a timely basis. Observes diners to ensure they are satisfied with food and service, responds to additional requests, and determines when the meal has been completed. Rings up bills and accepts payment. May assist bus person in stocking, removing and resetting dishes and silverware between courses, and cleaning and resetting vacated tables.
Specific Tasks:
- Greet guests once they are seated, describe the menu and overall experience, answer any questions about food, drink or the restaurant itself.
- Provide recommendations and descriptions on any menu items.
- Take food or drink orders from guests.
- Ask for any allergies or dietary restrictions.
- Communicate with managers and kitchen about any allergies or dietary restrictions following “allergy ticket” protocol set by restaurant.
- Check guests’ identification to ensure that they meet the minimum age requirements for consumption of alcohol.
- Monitor and observe guests dining experience to ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problems.
- Ring in drinks to the bar and serve drinks to tables. Running drinks as they are ready… even if It is not your table.
- Present and pour wine ordered at the table adhering to wine service standards of the restaurant.
- Prepare checks and collect accurate payment and enter tips correctly.
- Enter orders accurately into the POS per standards set by restaurant.
- Accurately prepare checkout at the end of your shift following cash handling procedures set by restaurant.
- Properly set the pace of the meal by firing items appropriately to the kitchen.
- Maintain constant communication with support staff assigned to your section, keeping them aware of where guests are in their meal and what to expect next.
- Oversee and assist with clearing and resetting between courses as well as maintenance of water service.
- Maintain cleanliness of tables during service “table maintenance”
- Offer additional beverages throughout the meal.
- Serve food from the kitchen to tables as needed.
- Maintain communication with Management keeping them aware of any issues, concerns and timing at your table.
- Assist in areas outside of your assigned station during service.
- Help seat guests when needed.
- Maintain service stations throughout.
- Complete daily opening & closing “side work” assigned by management.
- Take guests’ allergies with the utmost seriousness and comply with Allergy Protocol set by restaurant
- Comply with all safety and sanitation (including handwashing) guidelines and procedures
- Attend all scheduled meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
- Fill-in in when needed to ensure guest service standards.
- Boka Restaurant Group operates on a seven day per week schedule, consistent and reliable attendance is mandatory.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Safely and effectively use all necessary tools and equipment
- Stand and walk for an entire shift, including moving safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven and slick surfaces
