Responsibilities
As a surgical services nurse at CHI St. Gabriel's Health, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room to ensure they receive excellent nursing when they are at their most vulnerable.
Every day you will go over consent forms, answer questions about the procedure, do preoperative assessments, make sure the equipment is ready to go, and update family members on the surgery status during the operation.
To be successful in this role you must have the ability to maintain focus while multitasking, remain calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment in emergency situations.

- The Preoperative Registered Nurse provides for the surgical patients’ needs by assessing, planning and implementing preoperative nursing care and care prior to discharge and/or transfer.
- Nursing activities include: nursing admission assessment; preparation of the patient for the operating room; creation of a safe and clean/sterile environment; conducting preoperative and post-operative education; and monitoring as required the physiological and psychological status of the patient.
- Serves as a liaison between anesthesia; physicians and the operating room to assure integration, coordination, patient advocacy and efficient provision of safety, quality and services across patient care settings and disciplines.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota
Current BLS prior to employment
Completion of St. Gabriel’s general orientation program obtained within 90 days of employment
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 12 months of hire
Preferred
Recent experience in a perioperative nursing setting, preferably specific preadmission setting
Endoscopy and infusions experience

$39.22 - $52.92 /hour
