The Pharmacy Technician Lead Certified is a key member of the pharmacy leadership team, assisting the Director of Pharmacy and pharmacy managers in the planning, management, and supervision of all operational activities related to the pharmacy technician staff. The Pharmacy Technician Lead functions in an advanced practice role as a pharmacy specialist within the pharmacy and on interdisciplinary teams. The Pharmacy Technician lead, with pharmacy department leadership, will coordinate all functions related to technician activities that maintain and improve workflow, safety and efficiency to ensure quality distributive processes and services. The Pharmacy Technician lead is responsible for technician training, competency assessment, disciplinary action, regulatory compliance, scheduling, policy/procedures, oversight, and quality improvement activities. The Pharmacy Technician lead may direct and coordinate technicians across multiple sites. Must be self-motivated with effective organizational skills.

- Maintains a positive leadership role within the department.
- Supervises and assists pharmacy technicians and other support staff effectively.
- Conducts performance evaluation and competency assessment of pharmacy technicians.
- Educates, mentors, and evaluates pharmacy technicians to develop and improve skills necessary for providing pharmaceutical care.
- Develops and provides educational programs, learning modules, and knowledge assessment tools.
- Provides technical support for automated dispensing machines, carousel technology for automated medication inventory storage, and other pharmacy computer systems.
- Performs all payroll and scheduling functions for all pharmacy coworkers under the direction of the Pharmacy Director.
- Maintains appropriate controlled substance records.
- Performs audits, investigations, and other tasks related to medication safety and potential medication diversion
- Responds to data requests from other clinical and/or regulatory departments
- Assists in implementation of process changes.
- Works with the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Operations Manager to establish, implement, and monitor pharmacy goals and objectives.
- Review and update policies as assigned
- Prepares, distributes, and enters data for monthly nursing unit inspections
- Serves as a liaison with colleges of pharmacy, schedules and orients students visiting site on clinical rotation
- Assists with managing the drug formulary by ensuring operational and inventory efficient processes are in place and are followed.

- Participates in departmental and organizational committees at the discretion of the Pharmacy Director

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- 4 years pharmacy experience in hospital pharmacy required
Preferred Education and Experience
2 years lead, supervisory, or management experience preferred
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Registered Pharmacy Tech in the state in which the employee works, PHARMTECH:KY
- Active CPT-EXCPT or CPT-PTCB or CPHT certification in good standing
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- Knowledge of the standards, techniques and tools relating to pharmaceutical patient care.
- Knowledge of the regulatory requirements applicable to pharmaceutical patient care.
- Knowledge of mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, basic algebra and calculations.
- Ability to mix oral powders and compounded drugs and to prepare intravenous admixture and other parenteral drugs.
- Ability to understand and use/apply I.V. admixture, automated distribution systems, outpatient services and decentralized pharmacy services. This may include hazardous compounding requirements where appropriate.
- Ability to understand and apply standards, procedures and techniques to the work assignment.
- Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
