Position Summary
The Supervisory Linguist assists the Program Manager in overseeing performance of a language services contract supporting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as an on-site supervisor and POC for law enforcement personnel for each TIII intercept location.
- Supervise linguists on-site during the performance of daily work assignments and end products.
- Provide support to the Program Manager in:
- The assignment of linguist(s) to monitor real-time oral communications intercepts.
- The assignment of linguist(s) to transcribe, translate, and validate completed work.
- Training and orienting new hires and personnel who do not have prior experience related to the procedures and policies for the work and wire room operations.
- The smooth transition between linguist shifts, in situations that require monitoring or transcription services that must continue beyond an individual's shift.
- The maintenance of records of work production, evidence control, and other administrative records as required.
- The maintenance of the monthly schedule.
- The maintenance of time and attendance records for linguists they are supervising.
- Follow all Quality Control Plan procedures.
- Be capable of performing all the functions and duties described for linguist(s), including:
- Monitoring, translating, transcribing, interpreting, performing quality control and validating services.
- Providing reliable and accurate transcriptions, translation or interceptions and/or summaries of source materials or intercepts into English. All linguists shall be capable of performing multi-functional duties, i.e., when not intercepting, the linguist shall transcribe or translate source materials/documents and/or perform quality control functions on documents/materials completed by other linguists.
- Attend ATF-sponsored training pertaining to the operation and upgrade of specific equipment and software utilized by ATF. The equipment and software may include audio recording machines, computerized word processor/data management software and other pertinent equipment determined necessary by ATF.
- Perform, as required, administrative duties related to tasks. Such duties may include but are not limited to placing log sheets, line sheets, duplicating tapes and/or summaries into binders, copying and stapling related paperwork, and labeling storage boxes.
- Attend minimization briefings conducted by the U.S. Attorney's Office and ATF. Understand and comply with Court regulations concerning minimization procedures.
- Prior experience managing and performing linguist duties such as monitoring, translating, transcribing, interpreting, performing quality control and/or validating services.
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand a language other than English, and demonstrate these abilities through a valid certification or evidence of language proficiency testing.
- 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, particularly for language services contracts.
- May be required to use computer screen for extensive periods of time.
- Extended working hours and travel may be necessary.
