Description:The job of Special Education Teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by servingas a teacher with specific responsibility for developing special education students' success in academics, interpersonal skills andactivities of daily living; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and deliveringgroup and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, otherprofessional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range ofinquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.Essential FunctionsActs as case manager for assigned students for the purpose of scheduling IEP meetings and completing necessary paperwork anddocumentation.Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning planswithin established lesson plansand to meet IEP goals and objectives.Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competencylevels and/or developing individual learning plans.Administers first aid and prescription medications (under the direction of a health care professional) for the purpose of providingemergency and necessary care in compliance with established guidelines.Advises parents, legal guardians and home school districts of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations;student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.Arranges outings and field trips for the purpose of exposing N.E.W. B.O.C.E.S. students to situations and environments outside ofthe school settings and to provide community awareness.Assesses and keeps data on student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals (e.g. behavioral, motor developmentand communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents andadministration.Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose ofimproving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvementplan.Conducts I.E.P. meetings for the purpose of conveying and sharing information about the student with parents, guardians, andother concerned parties.Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personalissues.Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effectiveprogram that addresses individual student requirements.Directs paraprofessionals and volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs ofindividual students.Drives school vehicles for the purpose of transporting N.E.W. B.O.C.E.S. students over scheduled routes to and from school and/orfield trips in a safe and timely manner.Guides N.E.W. B.O.C.E.S. students in completing their IEP goals (e.g. personal interactions, daily work tasks and assignmentspersonal hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring they stay on task and complete their work in a timely, efficient and safe manner.Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a definedcourse of study. Manages and documents student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. I.E.P. meetings, D.F.S. meetings, staff meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.) for thepurpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meetingmandated requirements.Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, behavior problems, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Wyoming Education Code and school policies.Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.

Requirements:Must hold a current and valid PTSB Certification
Must have a current and valid Special Education Endorsement
