Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Pediatric Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will support pediatric patients through compassionate chairside assistance, ensuring a positive and comfortable experience. This role involves working closely with dentists and hygienists to deliver high-quality dental care tailored to children, utilizing advanced dental technology and maintaining strict infection control standards. The Pediatric Dental Assistant will play a vital role in managing medical documentation, assisting with radiographic procedures, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Duties
- Assist pediatric patients during dental procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and comfort.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and setting up necessary supplies, adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring proper positioning and safety measures.
- Record vital signs and medical history, updating electronic health records (EMR systems such as Eaglesoft) accurately for each patient.
- Educate patients and parents on oral hygiene practices, dental terminology, and post-treatment care.
- Manage medical documentation and ensure all patient records are complete, accurate, and compliant with HIPAA standards.
- Assist with medical imaging procedures and maintain knowledge of anatomy relevant to pediatric dentistry.
- Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and coordinating patient flow as a dental receptionist when needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment in accordance with infection control guidelines.
- Support the dental team in specialized areas such as prosthodontics, endodontics, or general dentistry procedures as required.
Requirements
- Prior experience in dental assisting, preferably within pediatric dentistry or general dentistry settings.
- Proficiency with EMR systems including Eaglesoft.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and dental terminology.
- Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely and effectively; experience with 3D scanners is a plus.
- Strong understanding of anatomy relevant to pediatric patients and medical imaging procedures.
- Excellent communication skills to educate young patients and collaborate effectively with the dental team.
- Certification in dental assisting or relevant training is preferred but not mandatory; on-the-job training provided for qualified candidates.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- A compassionate attitude towards pediatric patients and their families is essential.
