The Richmond Control Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operations of the refinery’s process control systems and technology. This role is a member of the Richmond Controls and Information Systems team.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, programming, and hardware support of Distributed Control System (Honeywell), Safety Shutdown Systems (SIS), and various PLC applications.
- Leads control systems projects including system upgrades, replacements, and other lifecycle activities.
- As needed, attends factory acceptance tests and thoroughly evaluates new or modified control programming to ensure it meets Chevron’s standards and operational requirements.
- Works in collaboration with other functions to design and implement systems/solutions to increase unit optimization and reliability.
- Works 9/80 schedule but must be available for occasional 12-hour shift work as part of 24x7 support for unit startups, shutdowns, emergency callouts, etc. Participates as a member of a rotating on-call support team for after-hours system issues. Travel for training, internal Chevron needs, or external 3rd party engagements may occasionally be needed (0 to 4 weeks per year).
- In depth experience in process control including design, configuration, support and programming of distributed controls systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Working experience with Honeywell DCS. Knowledge of SIS system standards and testing protocols. Awareness of common network architectures used in PCN environment including the Purdue Model.
- Demonstrated experience in learning new control technologies, understanding opportunities and risks to applying them in a complex process environment, and communicating trade-offs effectively to multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and safely. Requires experience and knowledge of common industrial work practices, i.e. MOC, Stop Work, Work Permitting, and safe work practices within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience working in a team environment. Communicates well across operations, facilities engineering, IT, and other functions to improve reliability, efficiency, and process safety. Good written communication, comfortable developing and documenting procedures. Ability to be direct, decisive, and accountable, consistent with our Chevron Way values.

- The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $120,300 - $206,400.
