Offshore Chemist

About the Role

The role of the Offshore Chemist is to provide technical leadership in an assisting operations to achieve environmental excellence. You will identify indicators and provide recommendations to ensure operating within environmental permit thresholds and process conditions. The Chemist is responsible for adherence of the daily testing routine as well as provide training in chemistry and process.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the necessary sampling, measurement and analyses of the daily operation and optimization of oil and gas production.
• Maintain compliance with Air, Discharge, and Toxin Permits as well as specification for export of gas and condensate.
• Required analyses of glycols, crude oil, produced water, lubricating oil, cooling water, potable water, treated effluent. GCMS, IC, titration, extraction, spectrophotometer, RVP, centrifuge, visual kits, etc.
• Learn production chemistry of a gas platform and the compositions/interactions of typical chemical additives.
• Physical tasks including regular calibration, troubleshooting, minor repairs and planned maintenance of lab instruments, online measurement devices and relevant production equipment.
• Monitoring of the chemical injection skids, including chemicals inventory management and basic troubleshooting.
• Participation in daily operations meetings and solving technical production problems.
• Contribute to the formulation of procedures and guidelines and to keep documentation within the area of responsibility updated.
• Responsible for lab consumables inventory and housekeeping.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Technical proficiency in gas chromatography (GC) mass spectrometry (MS) operating and maintenance experience is desirable.
• Working knowledge of technologies and chemistry for addressing air, produced water, and treated effluent.
• Social, cooperative yet able to work in a very independent role, meticulous, as well as open for change.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English is a must.

Working Conditions

• Work in rotations of 14 days on the platform and 14 days rest at home.
• Work schedule is a 12-hours shift and may involve periods on night shift.
