This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up. Responsibilities
- Promote a safe environment by adhering to our Tenets of Operations, Life Saving Rules, stop work/right to shutdown plant, Conduct of Operations/ Operational Discipline, timely incident reporting and investigation, that ensures environmental compliance, reliable operations, and producing the highest quality product.
- Ability to work with other Operators and across departments (i.e., safety, environmental, maintenance, and reliability) to ensure safety, environmental, production, and cost goals are met.
- Assist in Operational Readiness activities such as development of procedures and unit manuals, training material, reading sheets, etc.
- Prior to mechanical completion assist in distributed control system factory acceptance testing, pre-commissioning/commissioning, deficiency punching process systems, and pre-startup safety reviews to ensure an on-schedule start-up.
- Following system turnover and mechanical completion perform routine plant operating duties, such as safely operating pumps, compressors, fired cracking heaters and boilers, reactors, extruders, distillation columns, cooling towers, water treatment facility, additive systems, and other plant equipment within safe operating ranges.
- Proactively make changes to the operating process necessary to maintain plant efficiency and product quality.
- Conduct field rounds on process equipment that will include documenting readings taken on flow meters, temperature, pressure, and level gauges.
- Monitor and optimize the process from a distributed control system console in the control room.
- Promptly respond to process alarms / constraints.
- Draw samples of products from the process for laboratory testing.
- Perform lab testing on some process and utility streams.
- Start-up/shut-down process equipment utilizing standard operating procedures.
- Deenergize, de-inventory, and prepare equipment to safely conduct maintenance.
- Perform Lock-Tag-Try to equipment that has been prepared for maintenance activities.
- Issue maintenance work and confined space entry permits.
- Return equipment to service by removal of locks, prepare equipment for process fluids, and inventorying.
- Support other operational activities associated with site turnarounds, projects, and opportunity to participate on initial Emergency Response team.
- Monitor and optimize the process from a distributed control system console in the control room.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Able to successfully qualify across all areas of assigned process unit.
- Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Operating needs of the unit will dictate work schedule. Must be able to complete the requirements of the formal operator training program. Initial work schedule will consist of working days with transition to a 12-hour rotating schedule taking place closer to the startup of the facility.
- Must be able to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities; ability to work at various heights, entry into confined space, work in various weather conditions and ability to listen and follow instructions.
- This position is safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Applicants will be required to take pre-employment tests.
- Associate degree in process technology (or related field) with minimum 2 years of applicable experience OR high school diploma/GED with minimum of 5 years of applicable experience. (A pplicable experience is experience in manufacturing within the petrochemical, refining industry, or related industry)
- Valid Driver’s License.
- At least 5 years of experience as a process operator in a chemical or refining plant, or related industry.
- Experience in the startup and commissioning of new units and/or a plant.
- Must pass pre-employment skills/aptitude testing.
- Must successfully complete the Console Operator Basic Requirements Assessment (COBRA).
