Cheverus High School, a co-educational, independent, college preparatory school in Portland, Maine sponsored by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), invites applications for the Assistant Principal for Academics position for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Assistant Principal for Academics reports to the Principal (Full-time, 12 months a year) and provides mission-driven leadership for the school’s academic program within the Jesuit educational context. 
• This role oversees curriculum development and evaluation, instructional quality, faculty supervision and professional growth, academic policies, and scheduling. 
• This role oversees the master schedule; coordinates course registration, academic publications; and collaborates closely with school counselors, department chairs, and families to support student success and ensure consistent implementation of academic policies. 
• The Assistant Principal leads and supports curriculum alignment, including Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, virtual learning, STEM programming, credit recovery, and new course development, while ensuring mission alignment and academic rigor. 
• The position supervises faculty evaluation, mentoring, hiring, and professional development; conducts classroom observations; and facilitates family engagement through academic events and admissions support. 
• The Assistant Principal for Academics serves on the Principal's leadership team and contributes to school-wide planning, governance, and continuous improvement.

• Have an appreciation for, experience of, and commitment to the principles of Jesuit education.
• Be an educator with demonstrated administrative leadership.
• Have at least a Master’s degree and at least five years teaching experience at the secondary level.
• Be capable of working collaboratively within a school whose collegial administrative structures are well defined.
• Possess strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
