Chesterton Utility is seeking a dedicated, experienced and reliable Wastewater professional to join our team as Assistant Utility Superintendent. The selected candidate will have experience as a strategic leader with strong managerial skills and financial acumen, preferably in a sewer or water utility, with successes in increasing operational efficiencies, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The candidate must be able to achieve a fairly swift and seamless transition into the role of Utility Superintendent.
The Chesterton Wastewater Treatment Plant is an advanced activated sludge plant with phosphorus removal and nitrification. It is a Class IV treatment plant with a rated capacity of 4.6 MGD and an average daily flow of 2.5 MGD. It serves approximately 6,000 customers, and treats the flow from the Town of Porter and the Indian Boundary Conservancy District.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of seven years of progressive financial and managerial experience, in addition to a valid Indiana driver license. Effective verbal and written communication is a must, as is a demonstrated ability to work with people and in teams and to establish and maintain positive relationships.

The Town provides a very competitive compensation and benefits package. This position is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. The 2026 salary starts at $85,000 which may be adjusted higher depending upon qualifications. The Town of Chesterton offers a generous package of health, vision, and dental insurance, along with paid holidays, vacation, and personal leave days. This position is eligible to participate in the Indiana Public Retirement System.
