Chesterton Utility is seeking a dedicated, experienced and reliable Wastewater professional to join our team as Assistant Utility Superintendent. The selected candidate will have experience as a strategic leader with strong managerial skills and financial acumen, preferably in a sewer or water utility, with successes in increasing operational efficiencies, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The candidate must be able to achieve a fairly swift and seamless transition into the role of Utility Superintendent.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of seven years of progressive financial and managerial experience, in addition to a valid Indiana driver license. Effective verbal and written communication is a must, as is a demonstrated ability to work with people and in teams and to establish and maintain positive relationships.
Knowledge:
- Specific knowledge of municipal utility budgeting
- Understanding of the State laws and Federal regulations related to municipal utility operations
- Broad knowledge of municipal utility finance, including rate development

Credentials/Experience:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater operations management, or a related field, with a comparably sized organization
- Experience in managing capital improvement projects (CIP), budgeting, and regulatory compliance
- A valid Driver’s License is required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Superintendent to appoint, supervise, or dismiss all employees of the Utility
- Assist the Superintendent to Investigate all claims against the Utility
- Assist in overseeing the operations of the Utility and any construction work, repairs, or alterations to the sewage treatment and collection system
- Assist the Superintendent in advising the Utility Board on all matters that will bring about efficient and economical operation and maintenance of the Utility
- Assist in maintaining compliance with NPDES operating permit
- Assist in the In-house and on-time completion of the following tasks:
- NPDES Permit Renewal
- Local Limits Study as needed
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Pay: $85,000.00 per year
