ASSISTANT SUMMER CAMP SUPERVSIOR (Part-time, temporary, seasonal)
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the care, safety, protection and supervision of the camp environments, staff and participants. He/she is responsible for communicating with parents, guardians and other camp staff during and after camp hours of operation. Responsibilities include the planning, preparation and organization of daily activities and site, as well as all administrative duties of camp, as assigned by the Camp Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of camp policies, rules, guidelines as well as general practices and procedures followed in the Parks, Recreation, and Senior Services Department.
- Supervises and makes recommendations to the Camp Supervisor regarding camp staff advancement or disciplinary action.
- Works closely, cooperatively and amicably with all staff members.
- Handles questions, problems, and concerns of parents/guardians before and during camp.
- Monitors and ensures appropriate participant behavoir and adherence to camp rules and regulations.
- Handles emergency situations in conjunction with the Camp Supervisor and ensures that they are reported to the Camp Director or Director Parks, Recreation, and Senior Services Department.
- Assess the overall program to see if there are any changes that need to be made for optimum functioning. Makes recommendations to the Camp Director, when necessary.
- Assigns games and activities to camp staff.
- Filling out all injury and accident reports for every incident in a timely manner.
- Taking care of all injuries including first aid.
- Distributes medication to participants and completes medication log accordingly.
- Pool/sunscreen checks completed and logged.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED).
- A minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver's License, and dependable transportation.
- A minimum of two (2) year's work experience in a summer day camp setting, preferably in a leadership role.
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification prior to camp start date (if not currently certified).
- Completion of successful background check and pre-employment testing.
- Must be available to work between 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday during Camp season.
Physical Abilities & Work Environment:
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
- Ability to continuously move about the camp environment (75%).
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (25%).
- Ability to occasionally operate objects, or tools.
- Ability to frequently transport, and/or move up to ten (10) pounds; infrequently transport and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to perceive depth, color, and details of measurement.
- Frequently positions self to set-up camp activities, occasionally utilizing ladders, step-stools.
- Frequent movement and use of limbs.
- Frequently operates a motorized vehicle.
- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Performs work in various field & weather conditions, including, but not limited to: unpaved sites, slippery sites, uneven terrain, mud, as well as regular exposure to outside weather conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain, humidity).

Hourly Rate: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
