What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Vehicle Parts Technician position at Chesterfield County?
High school diploma or GED; three years of experience researching, ordering, stocking, and issuing vehicle parts, equipment, and supplies, including experience with computerized inventory system; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of principles and practices of inventory management. Ability to read and interpret vehicle parts and supply catalogs including on-line versions; perform basic mathematical calculations; perform physical work to include but not limited to walking, lifting, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, reaching overhead. Communicate effectively orally and in writing; operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Lead and participate in the work of Vehicle Parts Technicians engaged in procurement and issuance of vehicle parts, equipment, and supplies. Provide work direction to Vehicle Parts Technicians (e.g. assign and review work, train new Vehicle Parts Technicians, coordinate technician activities between multiple storeroom locations). Monitor and assist in conducting inventory variances, storeroom operations, and orders. Participate in work of vehicle parts technicians in researching, ordering, receiving, issuing, and stocking parts, equipment, supplies, and materials. Inspect vehicle parts, supplies and equipment for conformity with specifications; contact vendors regarding discrepancies. Maintain contact with inventory suppliers and vendors regarding availability of vehicle parts, status of orders, and alternative sources of supply.
Perform computer data entry of inventory received, stock issues, and parts transactions. Maintain and prepare a variety of records and reports related to parts management activities. Must be flexible to work at any Fleet Parts operation. Perform other work as required.
