What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Operations Manager position at Chesterfield County, VA?
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of science degree in a related field with four years of experience including one year of lead/supervisory experience or an associate degree in a related field with four to six years of experience including one year of lead/supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which could include a high school diploma/GED, college level course work in engineering and/or business management preferred, with 10 years' experience with wastewater collections operations and maintenance including one year of lead/supervisory experience. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, supervising, and managing the operation, maintenance, and protection of wastewater facilities.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Manage, plan, and track all aspects of the operation and maintenance of Chesterfield County’s wastewater collections section;
- Communicate with other sections of the Utilities department in procedural and policy changes and questions relating to system operations and maintenance, construction, and development;
- Respond to customer complaints and inquires, while ensuring that excellent customer service is provided when addressing these complaints in a quick and effective manner;
- Approve all invoices for payment;
- Compile and monitor performance measure data to insure accomplishment of department and county goals and objectives;
- Perform other work as required.

Monday - Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
