Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. Chesterfield Employment Services (CES) creates opportunities for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to become valued employees in the community, improving their quality of life. CES is currently seeking a Van Driver to provide transportation services to and from work for those that are being supported with employment services. Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; one year of experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years of experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred; experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred; experience using a wheelchair lift preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques; of basic vehicle maintenance. Ability to operate a multi-passenger and paratransit vehicles; to operate a passenger-carrying van in a safe and efficient manner; to interact with passengers in a courteous and helpful manner; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred; ability to operate a wheelchair lift preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Possess a valid Virginia driver's license with real ID and star preferred.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.
Duties
- Transports individuals with developmental disabilities to and from work sites;
- Assists non-ambulatory passengers in loading and unloading utilizing a wheelchair lift;
- Follows regularly assigned routes and schedules; immediately reports delays to dispatch;
- Maintains order while transporting passengers; monitors interactions; intervenes as necessary;
- Performs pre-trip vehicle inspections (i.e. fluid levels, tire wear and pressure, lights);
- Inspects general vehicle maintenance; reports and/or coordinates maintenance need;
- Follows emergency procedures in the event of accident or breakdown;
- Maintains mileage, trip logs and other related records; and
- Performs other work as required.
Shift
Monday - Friday; shift varies between 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
