Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED; two years of experience in logistics, supply, or inventory control functions; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of basic inventory practices and procedures. Ability to maintain basic property and evidence management; attention to detail; to perform basic mathematical calculations; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; operate a vehicle properly and safely; to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers; ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
Good driving record required. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months; or a DUI conviction in the past four years. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of illegal drugs, and/or the use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or be a lawful permanent resident eligible for naturalization.
Duties
The Chesterfield Police Department is seeking a qualified individual for a part-time position under general supervision. This position is responsible for receiving evidence, storage and disposal of property and evidence to include but not limited to narcotics, weapons, and other items. Entry and review of evidence and property information in the computer system by documenting all pertinent information. Barcodes items with a label, assigns a storage location, properly places items in storage locations, and prepares paperwork as well as evidence for laboratory testing. Checks evidence in and out to officers for review for court, releases evidence to owners as outlined in policy; provides information and assistance related to property and evidence by phone and in person. Assists with preparation and disposal of property and evidence and files paperwork. Testify as needed in court proceedings. Makes notifications as needed to make corrections to forms or packaging; makes deposits to treasurer; travels to stations for pick up and maintains accurate documentation and chain of custody of evidence. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
Shift
28 hours/week; Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
