Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. Do you a have a keen eye for detail and enjoy being responsible for the smooth operation and upkeep of various facilities and ensuring operational efficiency? Great! We are currently seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician to be a part of our Facility and Housing program!
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; three years of experience in building trades such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry or plumbing, and groundskeeping or heavy equipment operation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems preferred. Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT)/Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician preferred. Completion of a formal apprenticeship or a technician training program preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair and grounds keeping. Ability to operate grounds equipment and hand and power tools; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Skill in maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities preferred;
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect a total of three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
- Assists in performing HVAC, electrical, painting, carpentry, plumbing, locksmith, and other trade work in the maintenance and repair of assigned buildings;
- Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools and light and heavy equipment;
- Assembles and moves office furniture and equipment;
- Performs preventive maintenance on building and grounds maintenance equipment;
- Conducts regular maintenance services and inspections of residential home systems;
- Maintains records of all maintenance and repair activities, parts used, supplies needed, and work orders; and
- Performs other work as required.
Shift
Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
