DUTIES:
This part-time position is responsible for delivering books, supplies, audiovisual equipment/materials to ten branch libraries throughout the county. Delivery Driver will open delivery packages to include boxes of books and other materials; process materials and prepare them for circulation; unpack, sort and scan donations; deliver internal and external mail to post office, branch libraries and other county departments; verify that mail and requested library materials are addressed correctly and marked with proper postage; perform basic clerical duties to include researching titles and transferring items between branches; plan delivery routes based on delivery loads; inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment. Use of computer is required. Perform other work as required.
This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; two years of professional driving experience required; one year of responsible delivery experience involving the use of a light and/or medium delivery vehicle preferred; one year of material handling experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Ability to lift and move heavy items is necessary. Must have the ability to prioritize work assignments, read, listen, and follow instructions. Basic computer skills required.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in automobile, library office, library locations and other professional settings; use of computers and devices required. Medium to heavy, occasionally very heavy, physical requirements which may include lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal and reading. The work is subject to both environmental conditions; activities occur inside and outside.
