Chesterfield Fire and EMS is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious delivery driver to support the department’s Resource Management Division (RMD) and provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers of Chesterfield County.
As a Delivery Driver your essential functions include the following:
Under general supervision of the Logistics Supervisor:
- Operate department vehicles safely to deliver and retrieve materials
- Deliver mail and supplies weekly to CFEMS fire and rescue stations, volunteer rescue buildings, fire administration, fire training center, and other department and county facilities
- Pick up and fulfill supply orders
- Load, unload, pack and unpack materials, supplies and equipment from delivery vehicles
- Maintain record of deliveries including completing necessary forms, logs and reports
- Perform weekly fueling and cleaning of the Chief and Deputy Chief’s vehicles
- Communicate professionally with internal staff and external vendors
- Perform other work as required
Here’s what you need to apply:
High school diploma or GED; two years of driving experience; one year of responsible delivery experience involving the use of a light and/or medium delivery vehicle preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of techniques and methods for establishing and maintaining delivery routes and schedules; of traffic and safety laws and safe driving techniques; of proper lifting techniques and methods; of proper operation of hand trucks, dollies and other equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; to follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures; to read and understand maps and delivery directions; to observe legal and defensive driving practices; to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, and bending; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation as defined by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months, or a DMV record point balance of less than negative one. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at the time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI background check, and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
