PLEASE NOTE: This position is located in a secured jail environment assisting the Jail Medical Unit to provide medical care to those incarcerated at the Chesterfield County Jail.
High school diploma/GED certificate. Must possess a diploma from an accredited school of nursing and a current license as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing; a bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred. Minimum of three years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including one year in a supervisory or lead capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a correctional setting is preferred. Must successfully complete a polygraph examination. Pre-employment drug screening, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.
This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.
Duties
This position is responsible for assisting the Medical Director with overseeing the daily functions of the Jail Medical Unit to include inmate billing, procurement, infectious disease management, emergency responses and role specific duties. To report all activities to the Jail Administration and guarantee adherence to the State and Federal regulations and standards (BLRJ and NCCHC). Oversee, supervise and train the vendor contract nurses. Develops and implements nursing protocols and procedures. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local health regulations, laws and policies. Organizes sick call for physician review and performs chart reviews. Evaluates and recommends purchase of supplies and equipment; inventories, orders and secures medications and medical supplies. Performs direct nursing care as required, including providing health assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans, administering medications and providing first aid care to individuals housed in the Chesterfield County Jail. Perform other work as required.
