General Description
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work of routine difficulty to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of assigned building(s), surrounding grounds, and equipment. The Maintenance Crew/Driver is responsible for loading, unloading, assembling, disassembling, and moving a variety of equipment and furniture, and performs safe deliveries, as needed.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work outside and be exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical equipment and may be exposed to dust or airborne particles, and packaged toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is moderate to loud.
Qualifications
Knowledge of basic custodial, building, or grounds maintenance and warehouse practices; and of applicable tools and equipment used in the assigned area of responsibility. Ability to use hand and power tools; to work in adverse weather conditions; to perform physically demanding work, including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, walking up and down stairs, standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities to achieve deadlines and ensure internal/external customer satisfaction. Basic computer skills are necessary, including working in Gmail, logging into computers, and working on tablets to manage work orders for updating and completing assignments.

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. Valid VA Driver’s License in good standing. Valid Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) Class B License is required, or must be obtained within one year of hire date. Must possess or obtain safety certifications for forklift and pallet jack equipment, as well as Risk Management certification, within one year of hire date. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.

Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensures all safety procedures are followed. Reports any safety hazards, injuries, or close calls to the supervisor. Promotes and conducts good housekeeping practices.
- Maintains vehicle; complies with all safe-work practices, policies, and processes at all times. Follows all traffic laws and regulations, and respects other vehicles on the road.
- Operates and maintains a variety of hand power tools and light/heavy equipment.
- Safely loads, secures, and transports heavy equipment to assigned destinations, after obtaining risk management certification.
- Assists in moving office/school furniture, county assets, and equipment between worksites, and within buildings.
- Secures cargo and properly arranges materials to safely arrive at destination.
- Moves, loads/unloads, assembles/disassembles, and sets up furniture; assists in event set-up and take-down.
- Gathers and disposes of trash, recycling, and waste materials associated with work.
- Works closely with management on problem solving and is able to be an independent decision maker.
- Shovels snow or operates snow removal equipment to maintain streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.
- Assists Asset Clerk and other crew in loading and scheduling shipments based on priority.
- Ensures all paperwork relative to receipts are forwarded to proper personnel for processing and filing, and ensures proper paperwork is assigned to work orders.
- Stocks assets according to a prescribed inventory system.
- Unpacks incoming goods, and wraps and packs outgoing goods.
- Delivers and picks up voting equipment to schools, based on the guidance of the supervisor, and follows appropriate protocols regarding the integrity and security of said equipment.
- Unloads materials from trucks by hand, or with hand-operated or motorized equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
