Long-Term Substitute 6th Grade Teacher

Chester Andover Elementary School has an opening for a dynamic, motivated and dedicated professional to work as a Long Term Substitute 6th Grade Teacher. This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday, with an estimated start date in January 2027 and ending around early April 2027. The successful candidate will support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth while ensuring continuity of instruction and classroom routines. This role includes collaboration with colleagues, communication with families, and active participation in the school community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with elementary best practices Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment Support students’ social-emotional development and positive behavior Follow established curriculum, lesson plans, and classroom routines Assess student progress and maintain appropriate records Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs Collaborate with grade-level team members, specialists, and support staff Participate in student support teams and school-wide activities as needed Uphold school policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations Maintain an organized, safe, and engaging classroom environment Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Qualification Requirements Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required Experience working with elementary-aged children Certifications and Licenses: Qualified candidates must hold or be eligible to hold a valid VT Educator License with an Elementary endorsement Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Understanding of child development and primary learning practices Strong classroom management and organizational skills Effective communication and collaboration skills Ability to adapt instruction and respond to student needs Ability to maintain accurate records and follow procedures Other Skills and Abilities: Patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor Enthusiasm for working with children Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families Physical Demands & Work Environment: This position involves standing, walking, bending, and active engagement with children throughout the day. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally may be required. The work environment is typical of an elementary school setting, with moderate noise levels.
