What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Chesapeake Search Partners?
CSP is partnering with an innovative and growing commercial construction firm, specifically focused on engineered products for advanced washroom design. With headquarters in the UK and offices in Australia and the United States, we support projects globally with a strong distributor network.
From concept to completion, we help architects, designers, contractors, and facilities teams specify and deliver restrooms that meet project requirements. Our expert support includes technical guidance, specification documentation, and installation assistance to ensure every commercial restroom project is completed with confidence.
Job Summary:
To prepare accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for commercial restroom projects across the US, supporting the sales team in converting opportunities into won business while ensuring every quote reflects our product capabilities, project requirements, and commercial targets.
Responsibilities:
- Review project drawings, specifications, and scope documents (architectural, MEP, and GC bid packages) to develop detailed, accurate material and labor cost estimates for restroom product systems, taking into account cost, materials, and production time.
- Highlight drawings and provide detailed scope-of-work proposals to support the sales and bid process.
- Prepare formal quotes and proposals in response to bid requests from general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and direct clients, ensuring competitive and commercially sound pricing.
- Support Business Development leads and the wider sales team through accurate, timely quotation on new bids, contracts, and other sales growth opportunities.
- Create new opportunities in the CRM where one doesn't already exist, and set relevant project follow-ups for the Internal Sales team so no lead is left untracked.
- Work closely with the VP Sales, Business Development team, and Design team to clarify scope, resolve open questions, and ensure quotes align with what has been sold and what can be delivered.
- Take ownership of the full estimate lifecycle for assigned projects — from initial takeoff through revisions, value engineering, and final submission — keeping quotes updated as drawings evolve.
- Track quote status, follow-up actions, and win/loss outcomes in the company's CRM and project management systems, ensuring timely follow-up per the sales team's requirements.
- Liaise with the Estimating and Production teams (US and UK) to confirm product availability, lead times, and cost assumptions are current and accurately reflected in every estimate.
- Identify and flag scope gaps, ambiguous specifications, or missing information early, working with the sales and design teams to resolve them before a quote is finalized.
- Build and maintain a working knowledge of Dolphin's full product range, technical specifications, and US code/compliance requirements (ADA, IPC, local plumbing codes) — full product and industry training will be provided.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of estimating templates, unit pricing, and standard cost assumptions to improve turnaround time and consistency across the team.
- Provide regular reporting on Estimating activity — quote volume, turnaround time, and conversion rates — to senior management
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience within a General Contractor (GC), subcontractor, or building products/manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural and MEP drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Experience preparing formal quotes/proposals within a commercial construction or bid environment.
- No prior restroom/washroom or product-specific industry knowledge required — full training on Dolphin's product range and processes will be provided.
- High attention to detail, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Target-driven, customer-focused, and comfortable applying innovative solutions to solve estimating challenges.
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam — this is non-negotiable for the role; strong with numerical data; able to manage multiple concurrent projects/quotes
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software.
Key Performance Measures:
- Quotation turnaround time.
- Estimate accuracy (variance between quoted and final costs).
- Quote-to-win conversion ratio.
- Volume of estimates completed within agreed SLA
