What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cardiovascular Technician position at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center?
The Technician is responsible for providing direct patient care under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse or other Medical Personnel. Responsibilities are performed in accordance with accepted standards of practice and within the scope of the technician’s education, training, and experience.
The Technician is expected to demonstrate competency in aseptic technique, laboratory procedures, orthopedic care, and minor surgical procedures. They must be proficient in caring for a wide range of patient populations, including infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups, depending on the clinical area. Additionally, the technician plays an active role in orienting and supporting the training of new staff and students.
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
- Assist with patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or other Medical Personnel.
- Take and record vital signs, including orthostatic blood pressures.
- Perform blood glucose checks and urine tests.
- Collect and transport lab specimens; perform phlebotomy as needed.
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control procedures.
- Operate medical equipment such as EKG machines and bladder scanners.
- Assist with minor procedures.
- Apply and remove orthopedic devices and demonstrate crutch walking (if required for your department).
- Insert and remove Foley catheters and peripheral IVs.
- Keep patient care areas clean, stocked, and organized.
- Transport patients safely within the hospital.
- Report changes in patient condition to the RN promptly.
- Assist with moving and preparing patients for treatment.
- Attend required trainings and adapt to flexible scheduling as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent with post-training as either a Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, Paramedic, Medical Assistant, r are a Nursing or EMS student
Experience: 2 years’ experience in an acute care facility or direct patient care setting, corpsman experience, or paramedic/EMT training; must demonstrate competency in aseptic technique, cardiac arrhythmias, laboratory services, minor surgical procedures, and/or orthopedic.
BLS Certification within 90 days of hire.
ACLS preferred.
Experience
Preferred- 2 years’ experience in an acute care facility or direct patient care setting
Education
Required- High School or better in Education
