Summary
The Specials Technologist is responsible for the maintenance and quality of patient care in the Specials department and throughout the organization.

Reports to: Radiology Supervisor, though may be assigned work from Radiologist, Department Director, and Clinical Coordinator.

Education And Experience
Experience: 2 years preferred, but will accept new graduates who are able to achieve proficiency within three months.
Minimum Required Education: Graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology.
Experience: Previous experience as a registered technologist. Preferred Cardiac Cath experience and/or willingness to cross train for shared lab.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ARRT Registered. BLS Certification required within 6 months. ACLS Certification required within 6 months. Must have ability to achieve proficiency in job within three months.

- Exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Must exhibit courteous communication skills and ability to work with others, exercising good judgment in performance of job duties.
- Works as a member of a quality team to continuously improve work quality.
- Confirms patient identification prior to procedure by verbal confirmation on outpatients and identification band on in-patients.
- Follows protocols and procedures meeting department standards.
- Works closely with the radiology nurse and radiologists performing interventional procedures and angiograms.
- Utilizes assigned functions with the Radiology Information System to complete paperwork and to document contrast media reactions.
- Reviews patients’ charts for confirmation of physician’s orders and follows written or/and verbal protocols and instructions.
- Communicates equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to appropriate supervisor.
- Utilizes hospital computer system to enter radiology and laboratory orders, charges, or credits.
- Educates patient and family regarding exam, treatment, and outcome.
- Practices radiation safety according to department policies.
- Follows NRG and State regulations for radiation safety and keeps exposure “ALARA.”
- Performs visual preventative safety inspections and reports dangerous department or equipment conditions to appropriate personnel.
- Presents self in a positive manner as reflected by personal attire and etiquette.
- Demonstrates commitment to flexibility in schedule when necessary to ensure patient care.
- Uses schedule to maximum efficiency, maintains patient flow, and scheduling add-ons.
- Attends required meetings and in-services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
