Assistant Baseball Coach (Pitching) – Part Time Position
Description
The Assistant Coach (Pitching Coach) at Chesapeake College plays a critical role in supporting the Head Coach across all aspects of the program, with a particular focus on pitching development and recruiting. Chesapeake College prioritizes both academic excellence and athletic achievement, seeking an assistant coach who can mentor student-athletes, cultivate a positive team culture, and ensure compliance with Chesapeake College, Region 20, and NJCAA regulations.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to the Head Baseball Coach with all activities associated with the Baseball program.
- Serve as the program’s Pitching Coach, overseeing all aspects of pitcher development and performance.
- Analyze player performance to develop individualized improvement plans.
- Assist with overall practice planning, game strategy, and skill development for all student-athletes.
- Recruit academically driven and athletically talented student-athletes who reflect Chesapeake’s values.
- Promote a culture of academic responsibility
- Mentor student-athletes in leadership, discipline, and personal growth.
- Prepare the fields in a high quality and efficient manner in order to effectively facilitate the daily practice, pre-game and in-game schedule.
- Oversee all tarp usage and post-game field maintenance as necessary and monitor weather conditions to protect the field as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to participate in baseball related activities (throwing, catching, hitting, and pitching) in order to demonstrate skills required and provide live practice to players.
- Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly. Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 100lbs. occasionally with assistance.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Must be able to push and/or pull heavy loads.
Other Requirements:
- Minimum of one year coaching experience
- Knowledge of all aspects of the sport of baseball with demonstrated expertise in pitching instruction and development.
- Current CPR/AED/ First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
Job Types: Part-time, Contract, Temporary
Pay: $1,000.00 - $3,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
Work Location: In person
