What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Retail Store Manager position at Cherry Republic Career Center?
Summary of Duties: As with any job, other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
- Spearheads the training of staff by reviewing and revising orientation to products and sales training materials; assists with delivering training sessions; reviewing staff job results and learning needs with the retail store manager; develops and implements new product training.
- Attracts customers by originating display ideas; following display suggestions or schedules; constructing or assembling prefabricated display properties; and producing merchandise displays in windows and showcases, and on the sales floor.
- Helps customers by providing information; answering questions; obtaining merchandise requested; completing payment transactions; and preparing merchandise for delivery.
- Promotes sales by demonstrating merchandise and products to customers.
- Provides information; identifying and investigating customer complaints and service suggestions.
- Maintains inventory by checking merchandise to determine inventory levels; and anticipating customer demand.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending internal workshops.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintains store organization for efficient opening and closing.
Essential Job Duties:
To assist the Retail Manager as directed in accomplishing operational and customer service-oriented tasks and responsibilities. Take ownership, and responsibility and be accountable. Continuous enforcement of Cherry Republic customer service expectations through example. Strong desire to provide quality customer service with a positive attitude.
Non Essential Job Duties:
Pitching in where needed in preparing the property for each season (raking, shoveling, sweeping, and operating lite equipment). Ability to be on feet for more than 75% during any given shift with 25% of the time performing other tasks (i.e. stationary position at a computer). Willingness to provide manual labor as needed with the ability to lift 50 lbs. Promote a positive work atmosphere while working as part of a team to continually improve Cherry Republic as a “must-see” part of Northern Michigan.

- Education/Experience: Associate or bachelor’s degree from a two year/ four-year College or University; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with training, people management and retail required.
- Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, customers, managers and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as cost of good sold, appropriate product price mark-ups proportions, percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and make change.
- Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to communicate issues accurately and thoroughly to customers and staff.
- Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, you should have knowledge of Microsoft office, mail order software, and other POS (Point of Sale) software.
- Physical Skills - Ability to be on foot for long periods of time walking on sales floor with the stamina to stand stationary when working the POS system; cashiering. Frequently lifting 25 lbs or more throughout an 8 hour shift. Must be able to reach, bend, crouch, and use a ladder and tools to create displays. Frequent bagging and gift boxing when cashiering. Occasional outside maintenance is required (i.e. snow shoveling, sweeping).
