Interim Controller (Fractional) – Sage Intacct | Reston, VA (Hybrid)
Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnered with a confidential, privately held professional services software organization that supports government contractors in the technology space. The organization is seeking an Interim / Fractional Controller to provide short-term leadership coverage during a medical leave.
This engagement is ideal for a hands-on controller who can step in immediately, keep the close and reporting running smoothly, and offer thoughtful process improvement recommendations to a newly appointed CFO.
Engagement Details
- Location: Reston, VA (Hybrid – 1 day/week onsite)
- Duration: 1–2 months
- Hours: ~25 hours/week, with 1–2 heavier weeks (35–40 hours) mid-month during financial reporting
- System: Sage Intacct (required)
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the monthly close cycle, ensuring deadlines and accuracy are maintained
- Review and approve the accounting team’s work (JEs, reconciliations, invoicing/billing activities, etc.)
- Provide day-to-day leadership support including answering questions and providing directions as needed
- Prepare and/or finalize financial reports for leadership
- Maintain a “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach to support day-to-day accounting needs as required
- Observe, identify, and recommend opportunities to improve accounting operations and close efficiency to the CFO
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a Controller-level role (interim/consulting/fractional experience is a plus)
- Strong general ledger accounting and financial reporting background with the ability to step in quickly
- Demonstrated ability to lead, review, and elevate work product from a small accounting team
- Sage Intacct experience (required)
- Comfortable in a lean environment—able to be both strategic and hands-on
- Strong communication skills and confidence partnering with senior leadership
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)
- Background supporting GovCon-adjacent service providers and/or professional services organizations (government contracting experience not rquired)
