Job Summary:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Cherokee Speaker Home Health Supervisor supports Cherokee speaking families by overseeing home based language and wellness services. The role conducts safety and environmental assessments, develops individualized service and language plans, and connects families with appropriate health or social service resources. It collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to address health related concerns, guides home health staff on safe engagement practices, maintains required documentation, and contributes to program quality improvement. This position ensures families receive safe, culturally grounded support that strengthens daily Cherokee language use.
Job Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Connects with potential language families to assess capabilities and ensures a safe and supportive environment for language visualization.
  • Conducts wellness, safety, and environmental assessments during home visits to identify conditions that may affect family functioning or language learning success.
  • Develops Cherokee Language home studies and provides recommendations for services that support optimal family outcomes.
  • Conducts background checks in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Develops individualized service plans based on family needs and language goals.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing, social services, and behavioral health, when family needs include health related concerns impacting language development.
  • Identifies early signs of potential health-related challenges in the home environment and follows reporting and escalation procedures.
  • Provides appropriate Cherokee Language materials for home use.
  • Creates and implements family language plans to support speaking and daily use of the Cherokee Language in the home.
  • Coordinates with health or social service programs to connect families with appropriate home-based support services.
  • Provides training and guidance to home-health staff on maintaining safe home engagements, infection-control basics, and risk-reduction practices.
  • Maintains records in accordance with home-health standards and Cherokee Nation policies.
  • Participates in program quality improvement activities to enhance family safety and service delivery.
  • Performs other duties, tasks, and services consistent with this position as assigned.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position directly oversees the Cherokee Speaker Home Health Providers and Cherokee Speaker Home Health Assistants.
  • Sets work procedures, priorities, levels of responsibility, and objectives.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Social Work, health sciences, family and consumer sciences, human services, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or
move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Must possess a unique understanding of the mission of the Language Department in not only perpetuating the Cherokee language but also the culture and traditions of the Cherokee people.
  • Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for childcare.
