Job Summary:
Provides Audiometric screening, instructs patients in using hearing aids, makes referrals, and provides education on hearing deficiencies.
Job Duties:
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Performs basic Audiometric screenings and audiologic evaluations by: conducting air and bone conduction testing, operating an impedance instrument and audiometer, conducting speech testing, educating patients on procedures before, during and after each procedure and performing otacoustic emittance and auditory evoked potentials. Instructs patients regarding the care and use of hearing aids. Prepares molds as preliminary impressions from which hearing aids may be designed. Documents test results and related activities on the appropriate forms. Sets up and maintains an appointment and call back system. Mails appointments and reminders. Makes referral of patients with possible hearing deficiencies to the proper medical professional. Provides education on hearing deficiencies and screening techniques to organizations and schools as requested. Prepares reports. Maintains upkeep on equipment. Other duties may be assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school education; or general education degree (GED).

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No additional experience is required.(On the job training will be provided).

COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Audiology Assistant licensure from the State preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of hearing aid devices care, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance. Knowledge of basic speech, language and hearing screening examinations. Ability to operate hearing support clinics. Ability to provide clinical data management and program support.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).


Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
