GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Provides emergency medical care at the level of Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or I-85 to patients who are ill or injured.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.
- Provides emergency medical care to patients at the scene, in transport, and at the hospital, and performs the basic level assessment of patients' trauma or medical-related condition.
- Operates an ambulance, responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, and transports patients from scene to hospital and from one facility to another.
- Operates medical equipment at the EMT level as prescribed by EMS protocol and/or policy and procedures.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with the Communications Center and all other emergency agencies when responding to calls.
- Maintains adequate supplies and equipment as well as general upkeep and cleaning of the ambulance.
- Completes all required reports and documentation on time on each shift according to Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Services (EMS) policy and procedures.
- Complies with the applicable state, tribal, and federal regulations regarding the security, safety, and confidentiality of any record they create, maintain, transfer, or destroy, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium.

QUALIFICATIONS
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or one and one-half years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
- Must possess and maintain Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or I-85 License issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
- Must possess and maintain throughout employment, American Heart Association certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), and or American Red Cross certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
- Must keep all knowledge and skills current through specific continued education as required by the Oklahoma State Department of Health/EMS Division for renewing licensure.
- Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations and maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
