REPORTS TO: Principal

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Dean of Students serves as a member of the school administrative team and assists with the daily operation of the school, specifically in the areas of attendance, behavioral, and disciplinary prevention and intervention services with an emphasis on restorative justice and behavioral interventions and supports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in the implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to student behavior and attendance.
- Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the building and participates in disciplinary hearings when applicable.
- Address bus behavior referrals and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Supervises students on campus before and after school; monitors students during lunch, passing periods, and other activities; instructs students in appropriate behavior; disciplines students in accordance with established guidelines.
- Monitors and organizes attendance functions; prepares letters, calls parents, and attends meetings as needed, regarding absent or tardy students; provides leadership for attendance improvement efforts.
- Assist teachers with behavior management plans and strategies..
- Work with the administrative team in providing guidance and motivation for student success and in collaboratively developing plans for students who struggle.
- As a member of the school administrative team, assist with supervision of special events.
- Perform such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct, including entry of behavior events in the student information system, and producing and sending documentation related to behavior events to families as required by policy or statute.
- Develops and administers disciplinary procedures in accordance with district policies and state laws; receives referrals and confers with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints.
- Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of the student handbook.
- Serve as emergency substitute teacher when need arises.
- Coordinate and facilitate restorative practices approach to discipline.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of at-risk students.
- Works with the Principal to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students.
- Communicate with students, parents, and staff in a timely manner regarding student behavior and attendance.
- Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the principal in managing the school.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Regular classroom/school environment. Regular office environment, including frequent use of electronic email, being able to sit for long periods of time without a break, etc. Normal effort of occasional periods of moderate physical activity. Work is typically performed in an office environment with some travel to other campuses. Interruptions are expected to occur often. Must be able to adapt and respond quickly to constantly changing technology.
