What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Coordinator position at Cherokee County School District?
The Special Education Coordinator shall serve as the supervisor of special education compliance in accordance with district, state, and federal rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Administrative degree preferred
- Valid SC teaching certificate
- Five years successful experience in special education
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
SUPERVISES: All personnel serving in the assigned program
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for ensuring that students with disabilities receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in accordance with district, state and federal rules and regulations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with the implementation of uniform Special Education policies, procedures, and programming across the district.
- Assists in the operation of all district Special Education programs and services including but not limited to: instruction, related service, home-hospital, parochial school, out of district programs, and early intervention transition.
- Conducts evaluations in accordance with the district's evaluation plan.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
- Has the ability to effectively communicate with staff, students, parents, and the school community.
- Understands and accepts a high level of accountability and responsibility.
- Assists principals and the special education director in day-to-day operations, problem-solving and addressing staff needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to serve as the LEA.
- Assists in the school improvement process for students with disabilities through data analysis and goal analysis.
- Ensures development and implementation of High-Quality Individualized Education Plans and 504 Plans districtwide.
- Oversees the case management and IEP/504 facilitation process districtwide.
- Oversees the process of caseload assignments.
- Develops, implements, and monitors a district system for annual goal progress monitoring and reporting.
- Participates in training to stay current with special education rules and regulations.
- Provides updates and training for administrative, certified (general and special education staff), and support staff in response to changes to special education rules and regulations and ensures staff adhere to them.
- Provide professional development and training for new and existing staff on all components of the IEP/504 and facilitation of IEP/504 meetings.
- Provides ongoing parent information/education to foster positive collaborative relationships.
- Assists district testing coordinators in the provision of accommodations for testing.
- Assists in ensuring access to the Least Restrictive Environments.
- Acts as the District LEA for students attending out of district placements.
- Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulation, and laws governing special education.
