The Librarian is responsible for managing the librarys daily operations, organizing resources, supporting students and faculty with academic materials, and maintaining an effective and user-friendly learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, catalogue, and maintain all library books, journals, and digital resources.
- Assist students, staff, and faculty in locating and using library materials.
- Manage issuing and returning of books and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure proper shelving, labeling, and classification of all library resources.
- Maintain a quiet and conducive environment for reading and research.
- Oversee library memberships and maintain user databases.
- Plan and conduct library orientation sessions for new students and staff.
- Monitor the condition of books and recommend repair or replacement.
- Manage digital library systems and support e-resources.
- Enforce library rules and regulations.
- Prepare monthly reports on library usage and resource updates.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Library Science (B.L.I.S / M.L.I.S) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of library management systems and classification methods (Dewey Decimal, etc.).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, Internet research).
- Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
- Experience in an educational institution library.
- Ability to guide students in academic research.
- Knowledge of digital libraries and e-learning platforms.
