What are the responsibilities and job description for the Produce Assistant position at Chequamegon Food Co-op?
Purpose: To stock and display fresh produce while providing prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and to help meet department goals for sales, margin, labor and customer service. Part-time position.
Status: Reports to Produce Department Manager
Responsibilities:
A. Assist customers with produce questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in friendly, courteous manner.
B. Replenish and rotate displays, culling several times daily, and following stocking priorities set by Produce Department Manager.
C. Trim, wash, bundle produce, following priorities set by Produce Department Manager.
D. Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly, with appropriate notification to Produce Department Manager.
E. Remove trash, clean cases and keep retail, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition.
F. Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler and walk-in temperatures and follow procedures for handling breakdowns. Advise Produce Department Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
G. Participate in periodic inventory and department cleaning shifts.
H. Unload/receive deliveries as needed
I. Perform other tasks assigned by Produce Department Manager.
J. Attend All-Staff and department meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently.
- Experience with, or interest in produce.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow direction well and good listening skills.
- Experience serving the public.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Ability to work in cold, wet conditions.
- Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment including sharp knives.
- Ability to project friendly, outgoing personality.
- Regular, predictable attendance.
- Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
Available to work nights and weekends.
Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
