The Law Clerk III Senior Division of Enforcement shall provide legal research and litigation support to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Division of Enforcement, Trial Unit. The SEC’s Division of Enforcement utilizes a variety of data that contain current, historical and future information about sensitive public company data, mutual fund data, and trade/quote data.
Responsibilities
- Assists attorneys with all phases of the litigation process.
- Performs complex legal research for trial staff.
- Reviews documents for relevance and privilege
- Compiles case materials.
- Assists in the preparation or prepares draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law.
- Organizes information for legal forms and documents including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, responses, and other pleadings.
- Conducts complex legal research and analysis for trial staff.
- Reviews evidence, takes witness statements, and assists in trial preparations and investigations.
- May oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
- Travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned
- Law Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience to include litigation and trial.
- Ability to obtain/pass Public Trust security check.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Proficient in conducting thorough online and electronic legal research, including familiarity with e-discovery tools and databases.
- Proficient legal research and analytical skills with expertise in platforms such as LexisNexis and/or Westlaw.
- Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Solid understanding of federal and state court systems and legal procedures.
- Must have experience supporting litigation and trial preparation, including witness interviews and evidence review.
- Skilled in drafting legal documents and interpreting laws, regulations, and procedural rules.
- Highly accountable and self-motivated, with a proactive approach to managing responsibilities.
- Must be detail-oriented critical thinker with a high level of accuracy in preparing legal work products.
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with adaptability and flexibility.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
