Job Description:
Cheme Mechanical Engineers use their technical expertise and project management skills to solve complex mechanical problems and deliver projects on time and on budget for our clients. As a Mechanical Engineer, you should be a highly creative individual with the ability to develop innovative solutions to our clients' needs, understanding the unique challenges of both process and mechanical design and the importance of the interface between the two disciplines.
Cheme Mechanical Engineers are leaders who will lead a multi-disciplinary team on a variety of projects and provide coaching, and mentorship to younger staff.
The duties of the successful candidate will consist of a combination of the following tasks:
Mechanical Engineer:
- Leading HVAC/Mechanical design through various phases of design projects ranging from feasibility studies through detailed design efforts.
- The majority of the work will be related to HVAC and Hydronic System design. However, expect to work in industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, steam/condensate systems, and fire protection.
- Coaching and support of other mechanical engineers/specialists
- Leading development of HVAC / Mechanical design documents including:
- Piping / Airflow and Instrumentation Diagrams
- Zoning, Classification and Pressurization Plans
- HVAC & Mechanical Plans (Ductwork, Piping, Plumbing)
- Datasheets and Specifications
- Coordinating design efforts with other engineers/architects to define mechanical requirements produce coordinated deliverables associated with mechanical engineering projects.
- Developing cost estimates for early stages of the project life cycle.
- Performing field surveys and evaluate condition of existing buildings, equipment and systems.
- Sizing, selecting and specifying mechanical equipment such as Air Handling Units, Fans, Chillers, Cooling Tower, Boilers, Pumps, etc.
- Designing plumbing and building utility piping systems
- Summarizing engineering results in written reports and/or presentations that are cohesive and of the highest quality.
Project Engineer:
- Management of assigned team members
- Primary point of contact with clients
- Project scope definition and engineering fees estimation
- Preparation and maintenance of budgets and schedules
- Equipment installation and cost estimating
- Execution and review of sizing calculations
- Preparation of construction specifications, user requirements, functional specifications, and scope documentation
- Coordination of contractors, fabricators, vendors, and progress reporting to the client
- Commissioning and validation protocol preparation and review
- Attendance of factory acceptance testing and on-site coordination and execution of commissioning and validation activities
- Preparation and review of standard operating procedures
- Travel to client sites for site review and troubleshooting
Minimum Required Education:
- Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Engineering from a recognized North American University/College, OR
- Bachelor of Science Degree in a Physical Science from a recognized North America University/College
Professional Requirements:
- Current registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario or a US State, OR
- Eligibility to apply for Professional Engineering licensure in Ontario US State within 1 year of employment
Core Competencies:
- At least 5 years of experience in applied mechanical design, engineering, and project management
- Experience in HVAC/Mechanical design within pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industry.
- Experience in creation design drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Revit 3D design software.
- Experience in utilizing building modeling software (HAP or Trane Trace) to perform HVAC Load Design and Energy Simulations.
- Mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge (Matlab, Excel, LabView etc)
- Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, etc.
- Creativity and analytical skills
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
- Experience authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures, on-the-job trainings, and other controlled documents
- Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards, and their application to the manufacturing process.
- Supervision of team members
- Training and development of junior staff
- Proficiency in written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly with clients.
- Adept at dealing with client’s and other people in a professional and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of common business practices and techniques such as quoting, preparation of requirements, marketing and sales.
- Use of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Office Suite to navigate a server environment and prepare engineering documents.
- Ability to use Microsoft Project to create schedules, and track project resources.
- Valid driver’s license, and owner of a car.
