A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available at Legacy Devers Eye Institute, Portland, Oregon. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out independent research, working closely with Dr. Kazuhiro Kurokawa and his team at Discoveries in Sight Research Laboratories. A unique and specialized research environment will allow you to address key scientific questions requiring accurate and precise measurements. Specifically, we will leverage the full potential of adaptive optics optical coherence tomography (AO-OCT) and fluorescence scanning laser ophthalmoscope (AO-fSLO) to study glaucoma and other neurodegenerative diseases. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with relevant background in the fields of biomedical engineering, ophthalmic imaging, vision science, and ophthalmology. Since the study involves both software and hardware design, development, and delicate implementation, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to have a strong engineering background as well, especially in the field of computer science and optics. Also, it is critical to have excellent communication skills to work with other colleagues with diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, pay close attention to the details and their environment, and eager to learn basic, translational, and clinical research as well as new imaging technologies.

Visiting clinicians, scientists, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows come from around the world (including England, France, Belgium, Brazil, Korea, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, China, Germany, Nepal and South Africa) in order to draw on our research expertise. Responsibilities
A Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is an MD or Ph.D. in a scientific discipline. Post-Doctoral Research Fellows may provide clinical and/or scientific services, according to their level of responsibility, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator with the common goal of accelerating the development of new technologies and treatments in assigned area.
Qualifications
Education: MD or Ph.D. in a scientific discipline. At a minimum the individual must have documentation they have completed all of the course work, research, and thesis preparation and acceptance necessary to receive their degree. This recognizes that granting institutions (universities) only present degrees on a periodic schedule.
Skills: Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently.
Pay Range
USD $38.54 - USD $44.75 /Hr.

- Basic Research: Combining novel research programs in ocular anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology to discover their roles in ocular and central visual system disease.
- Clinical Research: Initiating and conducting clinical trials to test new diagnostic instruments and therapies.

- Technology Development: Working with industry to accelerate the development of new technologies and pharmaceuticals.
